Students are introduced to specific literary genres and their genesis in European and Italian literature over the centuries. They study the modern methodologies of their analysis and acquire the basic concepts of narratology, versification and stilystics. The structures of different prose genres (novel, short story, essay, travel essay, journal etc. ), lyrical, epic and dramatic forms are examined, together with an overview of their development in Italian literature over the centuries. By reading fragments and integral texts of selected Italian authors and analysing them on seminars, the students develop the skills that enable them to read and interpret the texts in Italian, furthermore they cultivate the feeling of layeredness of interpretation. |
