Description:
The first part of this course includes religious, cultural and philosophical ideas and theories on human nature, and cultural, sometimes implicit and sometimes explicit ideas and theories (Jewish-Christian view on human nature, view of human nature in Hinduism, conservative and liberal view on human nature, theory of unconsciousness and existentialism). The second part of the course focuses on narrow meaning of philosophy of anthropology through the work of Scheler (basic types of human self-understanding), Plessner (degrees of organic and human), Gehlen (undetermined and uncompleted human), Cassirer (language and myth) and some contemporary authors (Haeffner's question on the meaning of human survival). Upon the completion of the course, students will be able to: understand and explain basic philosophy of anthropology issues: being, origin and human determination while using tools of philosophy, distinguish variety of cultural, scientific and philosophical views on issues of human nature and distinguish unique determinants of human in relation to other beings through basic dimensions of human being.
